The Transit District operates 365 days per year and must ensure that residents have safe, dependable and reliable transportation for themselves and for their goods on a scheduled daily basis. It is the "lifeline" for the residents of the islands, carrying over 977,000 passengers, 5,300 tons of freight, and 25,000 vehicles annually. CBITD also carries the U.S. mail and transports school children to and from Portland. Incidental tour, cruise and charter service is offered as well. Casco Bay Island Transit District is a body corporate and politic created under State Enabling Legislation in 1981 to serve residents and visitors of six Casco Bay islands: Peaks Island, Little Diamond Island, Great Diamond Island and Cliff Island (which are within the City of Portland), the Town of Long Island, and the Town of Chebeague Island. The Board of CBITD is composed of twelve directors —ten elected from the islands, one appointed by the City of Portland, and one appointed by the Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation.

First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church
425 Congress Street Portland 04102 Phone : 207-773-5747 Welcome to First Parish! We hope the beauty and tradition of our historic Meeting House will give meaning to your time here. No matter what your belief or circumstance, we invite you to explore what our congregation might offer you. Whatever your ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religious heritage, or physical abilities, you are welcome here. We gather for public worship every Sunday at 10 AM and throughout the week for a variety of meetings and programs. Our mission is to nurture the spirit, to grow in community and to help heal the world. First Parish stands at both the historical and the contemporary center of Portland. Our central location, which we embrace proudly, calls us to spiritual witness and public service. We believe there are four essential ingredients necessary for spiritual growth: a commitment to serve and advocate for others, a willingness to accept and give support to one another; an openness to learning and to exploring life’s mysteries and a disciplined spiritual practice of one’s own choosing. We also believe that church and fun are not mutually exclusive.
